They say enjoy the journey… and that’s what we’re hoping for. “War Horse” is a new movie coming from Dreamworks Pictures and director Steven Spielberg, adapted from the Michael Morpurgo book and recent stage play by Nick Stafford, has that epic feel to it. Watch this clip to see what we’re talking about:
If you’re familiar with the book by Michael Morpurgo, you’ll better understand that this is not a movie about a war, it is about a bond between a horse named Joey and a young man, Albert, who tames and trains him. The book was written with children between 9-12 in mind and has an underlying message about peace not war in it. The film as envisioned by Spielberg is an adventure filled with loyalty, hope and tenacity.
Director Steven Spielberg with Jeremy Irvine who portrays Albert in the film
The story takes place in rural England and Europe during World War I when Joey and Albert are forcefully separated. Vowing to find Joey when he’s old enough, the film follows the journey of Joey (the horse) as he sees and lives with humans during war, changing and inspiring the people he meets along the way. You see war through the eyes of Joey as he interacts with the British Calvary, a German Soldier, a French Farmer and his granddaughter before the story reaches the emotional climax at the heart of “No Man’s Land”…. dum dum dum.
This is a bittersweet story filled with adventure and friendship. “War Horse” looks like one of those great movies that your whole family can enjoy and learn from. We hope you’ll follow the clips online and LIKE War Horse on Facebook. Here’s who’s in the cast:
Cast: Emily Watson, David Thewlis, Peter Mullan, Niels Arestrup, Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irvine, Benedict Cumberbatch, Toby Kebbell
Director: Steven Spielberg
Producers: Steven Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy
Executive Producers: Frank Marshall, Revel Guest
Screenplay by: Lee Hall and Richard Curtis Based on the book by: Michael Morpurgo
For any of you Stan Lee fans (yes, I am a big comic geek, all of us at MMTVN are) you’ll be excited to know that Marvel Entertainment and Paramount Pictures has a big surprise for you (us) this Friday – THOR will be in theaters.
Thor debuted in Silver Age comics as a character is based on Thor from Norse mythology.
Journey Into Mystery Thor Issue #83 August 1962
THOR has starred in several series from Journey into Mystery issue #83 in August 1962 to being a member of the superhero team known as the Avengers.
About the theatrical release of THOR
The epic adventure THOR spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the mystical realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. As a result, Thor is banished to Earth where he is forced to live among humans. When the most dangerous villain of his world sends its darkest forces to invade Earth, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero.
It was so great to see Stan Lee on the red carpet (and I can’t wait to see his cameo in the movie) and in the THOR Dr. Pepper commercial earlier this year.
Walking the red carpet at the El Capitan Theatre we saw one of my favorite actresses, Jennifer Grey and her husband Clark Gregg, who looked amazing! Kenneth Branagh, director of THOR was there and looked as dashing as ever. (check out our complete photo library on Flickr).
Chris Hemsworth AKA THOR
The star of THOR, actor, Chris Hemsworth, who is 6’3″ and from Melbourne, Australia was there. He really sells the character of THOR and audiences will be amazed at this movie. I loved this photo with him on the red carpet with his character behind.
For all you Star Trek (2009) fans, you may recognize him as George Kirk, who saves the day at the beginning of the movie. He’s also in the upcoming Avengers movie as of course the character of THOR (now filming).
THOR’s love interest Jane Foster (from the original comic story) is played by Natalie Portman who we did not see on the red carpet last night… but we did see her at the Oscars Red Carpet earlier this year… she was spotted in New York however and it’s not unreasonable to skip the 5 hour flight for the premiere as she is expecting her baby in the coming weeks.
You can watch a clip here (this is the 2nd Official Trailer for the movie)
We did also see Anthony Hopkins who plays Odin and the lovely Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis along with Jaime Alexander and Rene Russo who looked amazing as well.
