Repost from the RCR Article Christmas in Conway’s Andy Garcia Will Grab Your Heart and Make this Hallmark Hall of Fame Movie a Classic

We spoke with Andy Garcia after viewing a screener of Christmas in Conway, where he plays the husband, Duncan Mayor to Mary Louise Parker’s character, Suzy, who is the love of his life. The movie is an emotionally charged one where Garcia plays a hard-working, determined man who says little to those around him, all with a mission in mind for his wife, one last grand gesture that shows his love for her. Don’t miss the trailers below and the original song that is performed by Andy for the movie!

Our Interview with Andy… and he sings (below)

We all know Andy as an Oscar®, Emmy® and multiple Golden Globe® award nominee for movies like The Godfather Part III and For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story but he’s genuinely an artist as he shares why he made this film.

We asked Andy what drew him to this project? He told us that he was struck by the idea of this romantic notion where a couple would be in this place in their lives, at the end of her life (his wife), and his character challenges himself to get it done, the final gesture was beautiful.

When asked how he got into character for this role, he told us there were no tricks, it’s the craft, you have to live truthfully in this imaginary place created for you to tell the story.

Working with Mary-Louise Parker: Andy tells us that she was magnificent to work with. They shot the movie in 20 days and didn’t have a lot of prep-time and their relationship was very spontaneous in that they felt a kinship. Andy tells us there wasn’t much time to establish the bond they had to portray in the movie but from the moment he brings her home, walking her in the house in the opening scene, they showed up and executed.

Working with Cherie Oteri: Andy said when he heard she would be int he film he was excited because he knew she could bring levity to the role she was cast in and was very fun to work with.

We asked Andy what he liked about his character, Duncan Mayor? He told us that being a family man himself, being married for 35 years, helped him prepare for the role as he tells us that you will do for the person that is the greatest love of your life what you have to, especially if you are about to lose them.

His character feels the pain and suffering but doesn’t show it to his wife, everyone sees it, but she sees his love and enjoyment of her company. His character doesn’t want help, or want to ask for help, he wants to do everything for his wife.

Andy tells us that on set they were focused at the task at hand even though there were times where they laughed a lot there was a great ease and enjoyment in making the film, even though they had to make it look like winter while suffering the humidity and heat of a North Carolina summer. The people in the town they shot this movie in were very hospitable.

John Carter - Exclusive Ten Minute Scene

From Academy Award®–winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes “John Carter”—a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). “John Carter” is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

John Carter Romances the Hero in All of Us

John Carter It’s been almost 100 years since Edgar Rice Burroughs created the character John Carter and the story “A Princess of Mars” which has lived through time as a truly transmedia tale from novels to comic books, artwork to animation, TV and now Academy Award®–winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton and Walt Disney Pictures bring “John Carter” to life on the silver screen.

This story follows a former military captain, John Carter (played by Taylor Kitsch), who is sick of war, but then finds himself transported to a different world, set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). John Carter finds this new world on the brink of collapse, and during all of the chaos around him, he rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

Like the other movies that Stanton has been part of, Disney/Pixar’s WALL-E (winner of an Academy Award and Golden Globe), and “Finding Nemo” (Academy Award winner), they follow characters who are “out of their element” and face challenges both good and bad during their journey.

“John Carter” is an epic adventure, filled with action, romance and political intrigue with an impressive cast led by Taylor Kitsch (NBC’S “Friday Night Lights”, “X‐Men Origins: Wolverine”) in the title role, Lynn Collins (“50 First Dates,” “X‐Men Origins: Wolverine”) as the warrior princess Dejah Thoris and Oscar® nominee Willem Dafoe (“Spider‐Man,” “Shadow of the Vampire”) as Martian inhabitant Tars Tarkas.

Here are some interesting factoids about “John Carter”

  • Famous for Tarzan: Edgar Rice Burroughs, born in Chicago and is well-known for writing and creating Tarzan—still one of the most successful and iconic fictional creations of all time.
  • “John Carter” is based on Burroughs’ first novel, “A Princess of Mars.”
  • Academy Award®–winning director/writer Andrew Stanton was one of the four screenwriters to receive an Oscar nomination in 1996 for his contribution to “Toy Story,” and went on to receive credit as a screenwriter on subsequent Pixar films “A Bug’s Life,” “Toy Story 2,” and “Monsters, Inc.”
  • Production Designer Nathan Crowley was Oscar®- nominated for both “Dark Knight” and “The Prestige,” and Costume Designer Mayes Rubeo’s work is showcased in “Avatar” and “Apocalypto.”
  • Pulitzer Prize winner, Michael Chabon, is a co-writer on the screenplay.
  • Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino who has worked on Disney•Pixar films “Up” (Oscar® winner, Best Original Score; BAFTA winner, Best Music; Golden Globe® winner, Best Original Score for a Motion Picture; GRAMMY® Award winner, Best Score Soundtrack Album), “Ratatouille” (GRAMMY Award winner, Best Score Soundtrack Album; Annie Award winner, Best Music in an Animated Feature Production; Oscar nomination, Best Original Score) and “The Incredibles” (Annie Award winner, Best Music in an Animated Feature Production; GRAMMY nomination, Best Score Soundtrack Album).

Brave – a new Animated Action Adventure Comedy from Disney Pixar

Meet Merida from Disney Pixar's Brave

Meet Merida from Disney Pixar's Brave

We received notice of this new animated feature coming (next summer) from Disney-Pixar and thought we’d share it with you. First, because it features the character “Merida” who is a skilled archer and daughter of the King and second because it looks like another one of those animated films that remind you of childhood and living vicariously through the characters of the stories your parents read to you at night. Here’s a sneak peek…

More about BRAVE:

Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In “Brave,” a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts.

Disney Pixar's Brave

Disney Pixar's Brave

Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Wise Woman (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.

Directed by Mark Andrews (“The Incredibles,” “Ratatouille,” “John Carter”) and Brenda Chapman (“The Lion King,” “Prince of Egypt”), and produced by Katherine Sarafian (“Lifted,” “The Incredibles”), “Brave” is a grand adventure full of heart, memorable characters and the signature Pixar humor enjoyed by audiences of all ages. The film takes aim at theaters on June 22, 2012, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.

Not sure what HOT web series I’m referring too?? Here’s some background:

(watch it on Mingle Media TV Network)

Snooki has over 1 million followers on Twitter now and at the 7:18 minute mark into the interview she tells her fans that she loves the show! So, if you’ve missed out – now’s the time to catch up – all season 1 of LOST at da Jersey Shore is here  Click and watch it on Mingle Media TV Network.

Web Series Spotlight: Answers How to Get Snooki Excited about “LOST at da Jersey Shore”

If you’re new to the term “web series” (defined as a series of New Media episodes released on the Internet and part of an emerging medium called web TV) then you’ll appreciate this series of posts that we’ll be sharing here on MMTVN’s blog.

Our first spotlight is about the series created for the web called “LOST at da Jersey Shore.” As the convergence of TV and Movies (entertainment) move to the Internet, watching this web series will give you some perspective about the type of content being made for the web – waiting for you to find and enjoy.

Cast of LOST

Cast of ABC TV's LOST

Take the ABC TV show (dare I say, “hit”) with a cult-like following, LOST; so many of us spent Monday nights watching this series, season after season, watching re-runs, joining fan clubs, going online

The "LOST" cast at da Jersey Shore

to visit the different websites that engaged us and had us believing the Dharma Initiative was real and then posting and tweeting about the last few seasons with our online friends. Then it was over – and we were kinda left with a void, at least I was. It was not the ending I wanted.

Then you have the reality show scene with the Housewives of (Insert City Here), Iron Chef and the “Jersey Shore” building a fan base and being chatted about online. It’s no secret that the cast of the MTV show “Jersey Shore” is making headlines (seems like daily) with “The Situation’s” book and Snooki’s birthday party, sponsored by a condom manufacturer.

Who ever thought they’d be around for more than one season, let alone have a cast member join “Dancing with the Stars.” But they are and we are watching them, well, some of us are.

The common denominator is the web – we’re online watching TV and movies on our computers, we’re hooking up our PS3’s and other gaming consoles to the Internet and plugging in our newly acquired flat screen TV’s (remember we had to buy them or get a DTV box so we can get digital television as analog is no longer being broadcast) with wireless keyboards to surf the web, watch Netflix and Hulu.

The web gives everyone equal opportunity to create, produce and publish to their hearts desire. Consider this there are over 221 million people using the Internet in the US, add to that how many people are creating video and watching it:

  • Average time spent on YouTube per month in the US: 1:12:20
  • An average of 24 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute (which is equal to about 150K full length films over the course of a week)
  • YouTube streamed 5,799,702,000 videos in June 2010 in the US
  • Hulu streamed 598,812,000 videos in June 2010 in the US (about 1/10th of YouTube)
  • 36% of YouTube viewers are between the ages of 18-34 and are 50% male

These numbers only continues to grow.

Recently, I had the pleasure to meet with Jen Kucsak and Richard Salazar from MovieKidz Productions and creators of the mash-up parody, “LOST at Da Jersey Shore” (which is now playing on Mingle Media TV).

This creative team has not only done their homework in creating episodes that blend the “cast” and stories of these two TV shows but the fans also find it very authentic in a parallel universe kind-of-way. The highest compliment comes when MTV, VH1 and Snooki, a cast member of the Jersey Shore, mentions the webseries on their sites/blogs. But what’s even more exciting is the latest where Snooki is sporting the “Lost on da Jersey Shore” branded T-shirt.
