Our Interview with Sara Paxton About Dancing, Romance and Her New Musical “Lovestruck: The Musical” Premiering on ABC Family

Reblogged from the Red Carpet Report

Mingle Media TV’s Red Carpet Report got to interview Sara Paxton (“Aquamarine”) about her role as Mirabella, the daughter of Harper (portrayed by Jane Seymour AND Chelsea Kane) in the new original movie musical “Lovestruck: The Musical” premiering Sunday April 21, 8:00-10:00 p.m., ET/PT on ABC Family.

Our Interview with Sara

We asked Sara why she wanted to do this movie? She told us that she enjoyed doing musical theatre growing up but never a musical so this would be her first opportunity and she really wanted to do it.

She told us that she felt her character (daughter of Jane Seymour’s character and star of the dance company her mother runs) was relatable to girls and their relationships with their mothers. In the movie Sara’s mom doesn’t want her to give up her dream by quitting and getting married but it turns out it’s really her Mom’s dream not hers. She told us that every girl will deals with some aspect of this as it’s hard for a Mom to realize her daughter is growing up and making her own decisions.

The movie was shot in Pittsburgh and Sara said she loves to travel as part of her job and explore new cities and she loved Pittsburgh.

We asked her how it was to work with Jane Seymour? She told us that Jane was so grew, amazing and impressive as an actress and dancer. She was also very maternal (being the mother of six) and she kept reminding us to stretch beforehand.

Talking about the dancing, she said that Michael Rooney (“(500) Days of Summer,” “The Muppets” and choreographer of music videos for Fatboy Slim and Gnarls Barkley’s “Run,” for which he won his 5th MTV Award for Best Choreography) expected the best from the cast, the routines were really hard but she said that she considers her talent to be actress, singer then dancer.

Sara told us she was like this character in that she would follow her heart but she hasn’t found the right person yet.

Finally, we asked what was her favorite number in the musical? That was easy, it was Everlasting Love with 25 cast members dancing and they did it all in one take.

Oh, we did ask if she was going to follow in Jane Seymour’s footsteps and be on a future Dancing with the Stars and she just laughed.

About “Lovestruck: The Musical”

“Lovestruck: The Musical” tells the story of Harper (Jane Seymour), one of the best dancers to hit Broadway. But an injury caused her to leave the spotlight, become a choreographer, and raise her daughter, Mirabella (Sara Paxton). When Mirabella, the star of Harper’s next big production, decides to quit the show to get married, her mother is determined to put a stop to the wedding and show Mirabella that she cannot give up her career for love, especially to marry playboy Marco (Alexander DiPersia). After the long flight to the Italian wedding site, Harper takes a swig from a strange bottle that is supposed to dull the pain of an old dance injury. Instead, the elixir magically turns Harper 30 years younger.

“Remember Sunday” Synopsis
A lonely, down-on-her-luck waitress meets a handsome, quirky jewelry store clerk and thinks that maybe, finally, she’s met Mr. Right. The more Molly (Alexis Bledel) gets to know Gus (Zachary Levi), the more she’s intrigued by him. But she’s also mystified. Gus is absent-minded, preoccupied. Is he hiding something? The short answer is: yes. He’s reluctant to share with her that since suffering a brain aneurysm, he’s totally lost his short-term memory. Every day is a brand new day, his life starts anew. Every day he sees Molly he’s not able to connect the dots and recognize just how, exactly, she fits into his life. But there’s something about this beautiful, sensitive, funny woman that makes Gus fall in love with her all over again, day after day.

What’s better in 3D? Disney’s Beauty and the Beast in a Theatre Near You

Beauty Beast 3D - Limited time theatre release

Beauty Beast 3D - Limited time theatre release

How many times have you seen this movie? I bet you even own it? Me too. Nothing however, stops us from watching it time after time (good thing DVDs can’t get dog-eared). So why should you take your family to the theatre to see this again… because this time, it’s in 3D.

Think of the fun the kids will have with the 3D glasses and seeing the action of the characters dancing and interacting. Imagine their little hands reaching out to touch them. Engaging them… Who knows, maybe it will keep them occupied so they forget about needing to have snacks or run to the bathroom?

What’s amazing to me about this is that   “Beauty and the Beast” was the first hand-drawn film to be dimensionalized into 3D… and that’s no easy feat AND Walt Disney Studios didn’t initially have plans to release “Beauty and the Beast” or “The Lion King” theatrically in 3D they were just going to offer it for home sales. So why now? They tested “The Lion King” in 3D as there was a gap in scheduling releases and it made $100 million – which confirmed that audiences wanted to see the 3D version.

Question – do you remember when it first was released?  Walt Disney Pictures’ 30th full-length animated feature, ”Beauty and the Beast,” premiered in 1991. That’s 20 years ago, and it will be a first-time experience for children going to see it in a theatre setting which makes the experience more fun.

Bonus playing with “Beauty and the Beast” – is the “Tangled Ever After” Short: “The Pursuit”

More fun facts

“Beauty and the Beast” was the fifth classic fairy tale to be adapted as a Disney animated feature. The tradition began in 1937 with “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” which was based on the famous story by the Brothers Grimm. In the 1950s, Walt Disney and his animators successfully tackled two classic folk tales by French author Charles Perrault––”Cinderella” (1950) and “Sleeping Beauty” (1959). Another famous purveyor of fairy tales, Hans Christian Andersen, was the source of ”The Little Mermaid,” Disney’s 1989 release, which went on to become the Studio’s most successful animated feature up until that time.

  • “Beauty and the Beast” was nominated for six Academy Awards® and won Oscars® for Best Song, by the renowned Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, and Best Original Score (Menken).
  • Céline Dion won a GRAMMY® Award (with Peabo Bryson) for her chart-topping recording of the title song.
  • “Beauty and the Beast” was the 1st animated feature to bring in more than $100 million
  • Three years after the film’s debut, “Beauty and the Beast” hit Broadway opening at the Palace Theatre in New York and ran for 5,464 performances between 1994 and 2007, becoming the eighth-longest running production – it has even played in 13 countries and 115 cities and continues to enchant audiences worldwide

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ magical classic “Beauty and the Beast” returns to the big screen in Disney Digital 3D™, introducing a whole new generation to the Disney classic with stunning new 3D imagery. The film captures the fantastic journey of Belle (voice of Paige O’Hara), a bright and beautiful young woman who’s taken prisoner by a hideous beast (voice of Robby Benson) in his castle. Despite her precarious situation, Belle befriends the castle’s enchanted staff—a teapot, a candelabra and a mantel clock, among others—and ultimately learns to see beneath the Beast’s exterior to discover the heart and soul of a prince.

Featuring unforgettable music by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, and an enormously talented vocal ensemble, “Beauty and the Beast” was the first animated feature to receive a Best Picture nomination from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
