Great news for kids and families, Disney Junior’s new program, “Give A Book, Get A Book” has a goal of gifting 1 million books to kids in need.

Nancy Kanter, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Disney Junior Worldwide and First Book Board Member, Dr. Martha Bernadett were on hand at Disneyland on April 12th to announce the rollout of the “Give A Book, Get A Book” program with a goal to donate 1 million books to children in need.

The Importance of Storytelling

LeVar Burton, David Arquette, Tim Gunn and Ariel Winter share their love of storytelling and the importance of literacy.

Storytelling is also an integral part of the program, designed to inspire parents and caregivers to take time each day and read to their children, tell stories and encourage them to share as well. This will help develop the critical thinking, vocabulary and language skills every child needs.

“Through the donation of 30 million books over the last 15 years, Disney Publishing Worldwide’s collaboration with First Book has brought the magic of reading and storytelling to millions of children, unleashing their imaginations and opening their worlds,” said Andrew B. Sugerman, Executive Vice President, Disney Publishing Worldwide. “We’re thrilled to expand this program with Disney Junior’s Give a Book, Get a Book.”

The Program Kicks off April 21st

Starting on April 21st at Disney store locations and then later this summer at other nationwide retailers, families can participate in the Give a Book, Get a Book program. Stop by your local Disney store for in-store readings and check out the all-new website, GiveaBookGetaBook.com, jam-packed with resources for parents and caregivers to encourage storytelling while offering interactive activities to help keep kids engaged.

“Storytime Powered by Give a Book, Get a Book

At your local Disney store, kids will be able to enjoy two new stories from “Sofia the First” and “Jake and the Never Land Pirates,” both Disney Junior favorites. In addition to the in-store readings, Disney Store locations will be hosting special storytime events at Boys & Girls Clubs of America where children attending these events will receive a free book along with a redemption code bookmark.

How the Program Works with Redemption Codes

For a limited time, purchases of any specially marked Disney Junior book or product will include a redemption code on the receipt or packaging allowing kids and families to decide what region their donated book to First Book will go as well as giving the gifting family immediate access to a free Disney Digital Book to share as a family from Disney Publishing Worldwide.

Give a Book, Get a Book bookmarks that have these special redemption codes will be handed out to visitors at participating public libraries and Radio Disney events throughout the summer.

Celebs Invited to Help Children Smile with Smile Portrait Project

There’s nothing more warming than a smile. It gives you confidence, helps those around you feel at ease and so much more. Here are a few quotes I found to help paint a picture about the importance of what a smile can do for a person and to help set the tone of how awesome this story is:

  • People seldom notice old clothes if you wear a big smile.  ~Lee Mildon
  • The world always looks brighter from behind a smile.  ~Author Unknown
  • Life is like a mirror, we get the best results when we smile at it.  ~Author Unknown

Mingle Media TV is excited to be reporting on an awesome program designed to give back to our kids… to give them the gift of a smile. We love to support our Los Angeles Area community and causes large and small > especially ones that we know you can come out and support as well. The program is called “The Smile Portrait Project” and is founded by photographer, Faleena Hopkins, who is offering free 30 minute portrait shoots where the participants can purchase the photos after the shoot (or not). Faleena will be donating a large portion of the proceeds  to the “Smile Train” organization that helps children with cleft-pallet smile again.

Smile Portrait Project

Now, you don’t have to be a celebrity to participate and we’d love to keep Faleena busy shooting every hour because the “cause” is definitely something we all know is important!

Here’s how to reach her to schedule your FREE photo shoot:

Here’s more info on the “Smile Train” Benefit: Cleft lips and palates are a significant problem in under-developed countries. Children do not have the money or opportunity for reparative surgery to help them live normal lives. The goal of “Smile Train” is to provide free cleft surgeries for millions of poor children in developing countries and to provide free cleft-related training to medical personnel.

Mom, Comedian Kerri Pomarolli’s Laugh Break on Mingle Media TV

Today was going to be the original launch date of Kerri’s Laugh Break show on the Mingle Media TV Network, she is however on the road (she travels 40 weeks a year speaking at conferences, doing her stand up act and more) and in an area in Arkansas with very spotty Internet. We will be airing this segment at 4 PM ET today on her Laugh Break show, please tune in.

To honor the children around the world in need and especially in Haiti, Kerri has asked us to have a replay of the video she took of a trip she and her husband went on to Swaziland Africa to support and volunteer in the orphanages run by “Heart for Africa”  to help inspire viewers to reach out to their communities and to help the children in Haiti and other nations as they are able.

You can read more about Kerri’s trip here and check out some more information about what Kerri does on her website.

Be sure to tune in next week for Kerri’s LIVE Laugh Break show here on Mingle Media TV.
