14th Annual Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival… and why I think Edward James Olmos is amazing!

Growing up in South Florida, my childhood was influenced by the Cuban community, I loved the foods and the music and even did my aunt’s  (who is 3 yrs older than I am )  spanish homework so she could go out and play. Fast-forward to today, living in Los Angeles, I find myself drawn to eating both Spanish (love Frijoles negros and plantains) and Mexican themed foods (you should taste my Guacamole) and making them part of our favorite family foods; I guess what I am trying to say for me, it is not a different culture but part of who I am today.

LALIFF What does this have to do with the 14th Annual Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival? Good question. With more communities like Miami and Los Angeles having strong Latino community and strong sense of their heritage, we need to support the preservation of the cultures in our world while embracing and adopting them. Which is why this Festival is so important as a commitment to the community to help encourage Latino filmmakers, producers, writers and actors, to participate in submitting to the Festival including movies that depict the Latino culture.

We were at the festival, more as an attendee this year (don’t ask how I screwed up getting media passes for the red carpet) but we did catch one of my favorite actors… Edward James Olmos, who is a big part of this festival.

Edward James Olmos

No, Edward James Olmos is not calling me....

We did capture a few photos from Grauman’s Chinese where the festival took place and encourage you to check out the website – and find out how you can be part of this community today.

To close, I’m going to defer to one of the media partners who broadcast en Espanol, La Presensa.

And before I end this post – I would like to share this tribute I found on YouTube to Edward James Olmos….

See you next time!!

3D TV – Web Series? Yup, Award-winning “Safety Geeks” Releases 1st 3D Comedy Series

If you haven’t been following what’s happening with video online – or the growing community of Web TV Series (oh, yeah… hello, all of us here at Mingle Media TV want you to go to sign up for our weekly reminders for our 30 LIVE web shows...) then you will want to start at the TOP with the “Safety Geeks: 3D” award-winning, scripted, web series.

Some background… Mingle Media TV met the cast of Safety Geeks on the Red Carpet at the Streamy Awards…

They hinted about their 3D production for season 1 and then invited Mingle Media TV to a LIVE press conference where we were able to SEE with our own eyes (using 3D glasses that are super cool looking – not like the ones from the 1950’s) the awesome FX of what 3D looks like in your living room… (Sony, Samsung, Panasonic – this is a shameful plug in hopes of sponsorship)… All I can say is Christmas can’t come soon enough, I want a 3D HD TV (my son says 72″ but I don’t think I can sell him for enough money to pay for that model).

Here’s some background on how they made the 3D web series along with our reaction to viewing it during the press conference yesterday:

Now, if you still haven’t seen the Safety Geeks series… we’re gonna make it easy for you -> here’s Season 1 Episode 1 entitled: Sexy Lap Dance of Doom!

Here’s the back story: Produced by Dave Beeler and Tom Konkle, “Safety Geeks: 3D”, follows the comic adventures of a semi-elite force of safety experts; the P.O.S.H. (Professional Occupational Safety Hazard) team who is obsessed with making the world along with bits of Canada a safer place. The CSI-like team investigates accidents to find out what went wrong and who is to blame, however, their involvement causes far more damage than they prevent, leaving a trail of chaos and destruction in their wake.
