The Radio Disney Music Awards were held Saturday, April 26th – but taped for broadcast Sunday, April 27th at 8 PM ET/PT on the Disney Channel! Don’t read if you want to wait to see who wins… Spoiler Alert!

Selena Gomez, One Direction, Fifth Harmony, Taylor Swift and Zendaya were among the winners tonight at the Radio Disney Music Awards (RDMAs) held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE and included performances by Austin Mahone, Becky G, Zendaya, R5, Fifth Harmony and Ariana Grande, with the debut performance of new single “Problem” from her forthcoming second studio album.

Watch this clip to see 11-year-old singer, Aaliyah Rose was picked to sing “Let It Go” from Disney’s Frozen soundtrack at the Radio Disney Music Award! Also in this clip the Disney Channel team opened the show and Ariana Grande performed “Problem”, R5 performed “(I Can’t) Forget About You”, Fifth Harmony performed “Miss Movin’ On” and received an award, Zendaya performed “Replay,” Becky G performed “Shower” received an award and Austin Mahone performed “Mmm Yeah” the cast of Girl Meets World is trying to read the teleprompter and in the end of this clip, Shakira.

Shakira also helped present the Heroes for Change Award, which recognized three exemplary kids for making a difference in their communities. They are: Matthew Kaplan, 16, from Phoenix, Arizona, nominated by Youth Services America (YSA) for his “The Be O.N.E. Project,” an anti-bullying program targeting elementary and middle school-aged children; Arianna Lopez, 17, from Carpinteria, California,  nominated by Girls Inc. for “Carpinteria Clean and Green,” an anti-smoking initiative she began to make her hometown tobacco-free; and Yossy Rojas, 19, from Dana Point, California, nominated by the Boys and Girls Clubs of America for his involvement with “Relay For Life,” “Street Smarts” and “Sticker Shock,”  and efforts to increase drug and alcohol education.

We were invited to a screening of Disneynature’s new film, “Bears” which opens this Friday, April 18th in theaters nationwide. We hope you’ll take your family to see this movie this weekend as part of the proceeds will go to benefit our national parks.

Our Review

Following Sky, the mother bear, as she takes her cubs, Amber and Scout, out of the den and into a world full of majesty, danger, and searching for something to eat. Disneynature’s Bears, captures some of the most amazing footage of the Alaskan Wilderness and the day-to-day life of a grizzly bear family for their first year of discovery.

Disneynature’s BEARS opens in theaters April 18, 2014

First Steps

The Filmmakers capture not only the grandeur of Alaska’s Katai National Park, but also manage to get so candid with the bears, you, as an audience member, lose awareness that you’re watching a film, and feel more like you’re with the bears.

Digging Up Clams

What took me out of the film most was the narrator, John C. Reilly, while great in Wreck-It-Ralph, he lacked the gravitas that a David Attenborough, whom is most associated with nature and wildlife documentaries. Reilly is an unlikely cypher for this kind of film, he comes off more as the guy sitting behind you in the theatre, talking really loud. Aside from that, the film is engaging, gorgeous, and at times a bit daunting. There are a couple of times that one of the bear cubs gets into a dangerous situation, and you’re forced to deal with the potential outcome. This is real life nature. But in true Disney fashion, there is a happy ending.

Disneynature’s Bears will open nationwide this Friday, April 18th, 2014 to Celebrate Earth Day

The program SEE “BEARS,” PROTECT OUR NATIONAL PARKS invites moviegoers to see the film during opening week (April 18-24, 2014) and Disneynature, via the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund, will make a contribution to the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s national parks, to protect wildlife and wild places across America’s national park system.

Great news for kids and families, Disney Junior’s new program, “Give A Book, Get A Book” has a goal of gifting 1 million books to kids in need.

Nancy Kanter, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Disney Junior Worldwide and First Book Board Member, Dr. Martha Bernadett were on hand at Disneyland on April 12th to announce the rollout of the “Give A Book, Get A Book” program with a goal to donate 1 million books to children in need.

The Importance of Storytelling

LeVar Burton, David Arquette, Tim Gunn and Ariel Winter share their love of storytelling and the importance of literacy.

Storytelling is also an integral part of the program, designed to inspire parents and caregivers to take time each day and read to their children, tell stories and encourage them to share as well. This will help develop the critical thinking, vocabulary and language skills every child needs.

We spoke with Andy Garcia after viewing a screener of Christmas in Conway, where he plays the husband, Duncan Mayor to Mary Louise Parker’s character, Suzy, who is the love of his life. The movie is an emotionally charged one where Garcia plays a hard-working, determined man who says little to those around him, all with a mission in mind for his wife, one last grand gesture that shows his love for her. Our Interview with Andy… and he sings (below)

We all know Andy as an Oscar®, Emmy® and multiple Golden Globe® award nominee for movies like The Godfather Part III and For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story but he’s genuinely an artist as he shares why he made this film.

We asked Andy what drew him to this project? He told us that he was struck by the idea of this romantic notion where a couple would be in this place in their lives, at the end of her life (his wife), and his character challenges himself to get it done, the final gesture was beautiful.

When asked how he got into character for this role, he told us there were no tricks, it’s the craft, you have to live truthfully in this imaginary place created for you to tell the story.

Working with Mary-Louise Parker: Andy tells us that she was magnificent to work with. They shot the movie in 20 days and didn’t have a lot of prep-time and their relationship was very spontaneous in that they felt a kinship. Andy tells us there wasn’t much time to establish the bond they had to portray in the movie but from the moment he brings her home, walking her in the house in the opening scene, they showed up and executed.

Working with Cherie Oteri: Andy said when he heard she would be int he film he was excited because he knew she could bring levity to the role she was cast in and was very fun to work with.

We asked Andy what he liked about his character, Duncan Mayor? He told us that being a family man himself, being married for 35 years, helped him prepare for the role as he tells us that you will do for the person that is the greatest love of your life what you have to, especially if you are about to lose them.

His character feels the pain and suffering but doesn’t show it to his wife, everyone sees it, but she sees his love and enjoyment of her company. His character doesn’t want help, or want to ask for help, he wants to do everything for his wife.

Andy tells us that on set they were focused at the task at hand even though there were times where they laughed a lot there was a great ease and enjoyment in making the film, even though they had to make it look like winter while suffering the humidity and heat of a North Carolina summer. The people in the town they shot this movie in were very hospitable.
