Mingle Media TV and host, Kristyn Burtt, were invited to come out and cover 84th Academy Awards from the Red Carpet at the Hollywood and Highland Center. On Oscars Sunday our team interviewed Oscar winners (before the ceremony) along with other celebrities who were there to celebrate the event. The Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements in 2011 was televised from the Hollywood & Highland Center on the ABC Television Network and to more than 225 countries worldwide making it a truly international event.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is the world’s preeminent movie-related organization, with a membership of more than 6,000 of the most accomplished men and women working in cinema. In addition to the annual Academy Awards – in which the members vote to select the nominees and winners – the Academy presents a diverse year-round slate of public programs, exhibitions and events; provides financial support to a wide range of other movie-related organizations and endeavors; acts as a neutral advocate in the advancement of motion picture technology; and, through its Margaret Herrick Library and Academy Film Archive, collects, preserves, restores and provides access to movies and items related to their history. Through these and other activities the Academy serves students, historians, the entertainment industry and people everywhere who love movies.
Mingle Media TV and Kristyn Burtt were having some fun over at the Hollywood and Highland Center and thought they’d pitch in and help set up the stage… too bad the professionals weren’t buying it.
Actually, it’s been a long week for us and our coverage of this years 84th Academy Awards… and it hasn’t even happened YET. There’s one final walk to remember… yes, the walk down that long red carpet and the throngs of media screaming your name to get an interview before the ceremony begins.
Follow along with Kristyn as she takes that long walk from arrivals to the top of the stairs that you’ll be seeing filled with celebrities later today. Be sure to note where we’ll be at on the Red Carpet – and watch for us. We’ll have a post Oscars report for you after the awards show.

Michel Roskam, “Bullhead”, Joseph Cedar, “Footnote”, Agnieszka Holland, “In Darkness”, and Philippe Falardeau, “Monsieur Lazhar” were in attendance and excited to talk with us about how honored they were to be nominated and to give us some insight into their process as a filmmaker. (Sadly, director Asghar Farhadi, “A Separation” was not feeling well enough to attend.
All of the directors, actors and producers talked endearingly about their projects and homeland, they even spoke about how emotional they were about sharing their works with us.

We’ll be covering the Oscars from set up to day of at the Kodak Theatre and will be on the red carpet talking to celebrities on the day of the event as well.
Today, we’re looking at Best Picture Nominees that are up for the Oscar – and this is one that we believe will also be the Best Director too. Let us know your thoughts by posting here on our blog.
New rules – each movie had to had 5% of the vote in the #1 slot to be considered for Best Picture. We narrow it down to The Artist or The Help. The Help won big at the SAG Awards but as Kristyn points out the SAG Awards is about acting not that’s not a best picture. We all loved The Artist due to the romance and nostalgia celebrating movies – if you haven’t seen it, there’s still time.

“The Descendants” Jim Burke, Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor, Producers

Mingle Media TV and Kristyn Burtt were invited to come out and cover the preview of the Governors Ball for the 84th Academy Awards marking the 18th year that Wolfgang Puck has been at the helm for this Oscar event. This year’s menu was created by Wolfgang Puck with Chef Partner Matt Bencivenga and Executive Pastry Chef Sherry Yard and features fifty dishes that are comprised of local produce and sustainable seafood. The dishes range from one-bite hors d’oeuvres to small-plate entrees and will be served buffet style all evening. Seafood lovers won’t be disappointed as there will be smoked salmon Oscars, chicken pot pie with shaved black truffles, lobster tacos and beet salad. Everyone will be going home with an Oscar with Pastry Chef Sherry Yard’s infamous gold-dusted chocolate Oscars.

The theme this year is the future of Oscar in 3D and guests will find themselves lounging on chaises and padded chairs with over 1400 strands of Swarovski crystals hanging overhead. With 1,500 guests and 950 staff there will be a lot of care given to make sure everyone enjoys the evening… especially with 1,000 bottles of Moët & Chandon Champagne to be enjoyed during the evening.
It’s amazing to know that over 90% of the menu will come from local providers except for the “Maine” lobster and the “French” truffles. There will also be over 5000 chocolate Oscar statuettes which are covered in over 25 pounds of 24K gold dust for dessert. Pastry Chef Sherry Yard was inspired by the future of movies with her chocolate mousse and chiffon cake dessert shaped like a staircase which leads up to an Oscar placard made of white chocolate.

The care taken to provide the most sustainable, “green” foods for the menu is incredible. Meat, poultry, and dairy goods are raised without hormones or antibiotics, with the unused foods to be donated to Angel Harvest. They will also be recycling plastics, metals, paper, glass and composting floral arrangements. Some of the arrangements will also be donated to local homes for the elderly.
