The Importance of Storytelling

LeVar Burton, David Arquette, Tim Gunn and Ariel Winter share their love of storytelling and the importance of literacy.

Storytelling is also an integral part of the program, designed to inspire parents and caregivers to take time each day and read to their children, tell stories and encourage them to share as well. This will help develop the critical thinking, vocabulary and language skills every child needs.

“Through the donation of 30 million books over the last 15 years, Disney Publishing Worldwide’s collaboration with First Book has brought the magic of reading and storytelling to millions of children, unleashing their imaginations and opening their worlds,” said Andrew B. Sugerman, Executive Vice President, Disney Publishing Worldwide. “We’re thrilled to expand this program with Disney Junior’s Give a Book, Get a Book.”

The Program Kicks off April 21st

Starting on April 21st at Disney store locations and then later this summer at other nationwide retailers, families can participate in the Give a Book, Get a Book program. Stop by your local Disney store for in-store readings and check out the all-new website, GiveaBookGetaBook.com, jam-packed with resources for parents and caregivers to encourage storytelling while offering interactive activities to help keep kids engaged.

“Storytime Powered by Give a Book, Get a Book

At your local Disney store, kids will be able to enjoy two new stories from “Sofia the First” and “Jake and the Never Land Pirates,” both Disney Junior favorites. In addition to the in-store readings, Disney Store locations will be hosting special storytime events at Boys & Girls Clubs of America where children attending these events will receive a free book along with a redemption code bookmark.

How the Program Works with Redemption Codes

For a limited time, purchases of any specially marked Disney Junior book or product will include a redemption code on the receipt or packaging allowing kids and families to decide what region their donated book to First Book will go as well as giving the gifting family immediate access to a free Disney Digital Book to share as a family from Disney Publishing Worldwide.

Give a Book, Get a Book bookmarks that have these special redemption codes will be handed out to visitors at participating public libraries and Radio Disney events throughout the summer.
