It’s Not April Fools, It’s the Razzies!

Just like the Oscars, the Golden Raspberry award (Razzies) recognizes motion pictures in a given year only with a poor outcome. Founded in 1981 by John Wilson, a copyrighter and publicist, the first Razzie awards was timed to announce at Oscars time and for the past 31 years has followed the same timeline but this year the ceremony has been moved to April Fools Day – to further emphasize the humor intended for this event.

In case you didn’t figure it out – the term raspberry is used in its irreverent sense, as in “blowing a raspberry”. The Razzie award is not like the oppulent Oscar, its cost is $4.97 each and its golfball size raspberry is spray painted with lots of gold paint.

Categories include:

  •  Worst Actor
  •  Worst Actress
  •  Worst Supporting Actor
  •  Worst Supporting Actress
  •  Worst Screen Couple/Worst Screen Ensemble
  •  Worst Screenplay
  •  Worst Director
  •  Worst Picture
  •  Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel

…and Adam Sandler is up for the most nominations this year.
