Ben Utecht, Former Colts and Bengals NFL Football Player

Former Indianapolis Colts and Cincinnati Bengals tight end Ben Utecht, one of 32 current and former NFL players recognized as Insightful Players will be the guest of the new weekly Insightful Player online show on MingleMediaTV.com  this Tuesday,  August 2 at 7 p.m. ET. Mingle Media TV produces and broadcasts over 40 hours of web series and event coverage each week.

Chrissy Carew, a Master Certified personal and business coach based in Nashua, NH founded Insightful Player™ in April 2010 with a vision of providing an answer to a crucial worldwide calling for messages of hope that provoke positive actions.  “I’m thrilled to have an online show on MingleMediaTV.com where I’m able to interview my Insightful Players like Ben Utecht and have their stories told to the world,” said Carew, who serves as the host of the show. Carew was inducted into the International Coaching Federation (ICF) New England Chapter’s newly-established Hall of Fame on June 13.

Utecht is one of the 32 members of the Insightful Player™ team. To be named to this team, one must be a person of integrity, such as a current or former NFL player, who shares their personal message of hope for the sole purpose of lifting the spirits of all, especially children.

The short-version of Ben Utecht’s Insightful Player story is available on InsightfulPlayer.com. The full-length version will appear in the Insightful Player book that will be published by Morgan-James Publishing later this month.

On the show, Carew will discuss how Utecht’s approach to life was to grow in multiple areas while staying true to his values. He prepared for life after football and went full-force into a successful music career after concussions forced his retirement. The former University of Minnesota star, who won a Super Bowl with the Colts, is well on his way to becoming a successful musician with his “Christmas Hope” album and current music tour

Excerpt from Ben Utecht’s Insightful Player Profile

Graced with many gifts and talents, Ben Utecht grew up in a loving family, surrounded by music. He readily admits that he was far from perfect.  In is early years, he bought into the idea that he was better than others because of superficial things.

Ben was fortunate to have people in his life who told him the truth. He remembers a high school friend saying he had some issues with pride, and that ‘arrogance is not a quality that represents what you stand for’.   “It wasn’t easy to hear,” Ben says, “but it was a revelation.”

”When I left high school, the only thing that I was going to strive to do was to love people and love God.  My perspective about popularity and all those things had changed.”

Ben’s initial plans for a pro football career did not work out as expected. He spent half of his college career with two different injuries that took him completely out of the NFL draft.

When Ben became a free agent, he was contacted by Tony Dungee, coach of the Indianapolis Colts.  He and Ben are both alumni of the University of Minnesota, and had met at a conference.  The Colts paid Ben for a year while he underwent surgery and rehab. Three years after missing out on the draft, Ben was a starting tight end on the Colt’s Super Bowl championship team.  Without those college injuries, and the related incidents that occurred during that time, that would not have happened.  That experience reinforced his faith and hope.

Being a part of the NFL has opened some new doors for Ben.  He released his debut Inspirational music CD in April 2009.  Ben’s music reflects his personal mission.  “One of my songs talks about how, if our focus was on love, and how we can better serve people, it would change everything — from politics to religion.”

Ben has an inspiring attitude about his missteps and challenges.  He likens them to a trial by fire. “Some of our most precious metals are forged in the greatest heat,” he explains. Even in the midst of tough times, Ben looks forward to what’s ahead because he knows that growth can come from the greatest adversity.

Ben believes that people really do understand right versus wrong and good versus evil. “If you trust your instincts, you’ll usually make the right choice. It’s like a snowball effect.  The more good choices you make, the easier it gets to keep on doing that.”

From the outside, it looks as if Ben Utecht has everything, and could easily rest on his laurels. He takes none of this for granted, and believes his work has just begun. “I’ll never be afraid to stand up for what I believe in. And, I’ll always strive to be the best husband and father that I can possibly be.

“God has given me talents and abilities to do something with them.  I believe my job as an athlete and, hopefully, my job in the future as a musician, is so much more than just giving a performance.  It’s a platform to create change that affects everybody positively. I promise that, no matter if it’s football or music, I’m going to do whatever I can to inspire a new generation to change the world in a positive way.”

Montell Owens, running back and pro bowl special teams star for the Jacksonville Jaguars will be Chrissy Carew’s guest on the Insightful Player TV Show on MingleMediaTV.com (www.minglemediatv.com/insightfulplayertv.html) this Tuesday, July 19 at 7 p.m.

Owens is one of the 32 members of the Insightful Player™ team. To be named to this team, one must be a person of integrity, such as a current or former NFL player, who shares their personal message of hope for the sole purpose of lifting the spirits of all, especially children.

Chrissy Carew, a Master Certified personal and business coach based in Nashua, NH founded Insightful Player™ in April 2010 with a vision of providing an answer to a crucial worldwide calling for messages of hope that provoke positive actions.  “I’m thrilled to have an online show on MingleMediaTV.com where I’m able to interview my Insightful Players like Montell Owens,  Usama Young, Rashied Davis and others,”  said Carew, who serves as the host of the show. Carew was inducted into the International Coaching Federation (ICF) New England Chapter’s newly-established Hall of Fame on June 13.

Montell Owens’ path to the NFL wasn’t easy. He got there through sheer determination and hard work. At Concord High School in Wilmington, Delaware, Montell excelled in academics, music and sports. He was a member of the National Honor Society, a lead trumpet player in the jazz band, and a letterman in football, baseball, and track. As graduation approached, he began to get offers from colleges. The best offer – a full football scholarship – came from a surprising place: The University of Maine. All Montell knew about Maine is that it was cold and nine hours away from home. Still, his parents could not afford to pay for college, and Maine was the opportunity he had been waiting for. There, his running back coach Jeff Cole helped mold him into the player and individual he is today.

On The Insightful Player show, Chrissy Carew will discuss Cole’s influence on Owens, the need to build character in the youth of America, and how Insightful Player teamed with Owens a year ago on his return to Concord H.S. for the 1st Annual Montell Owens Youth Football Camp.

The Insightful Player™ team members are individuals that believed in themselves and relentlessly pursued their most far-reaching dreams, which resulted in a career in the National Football League.  The Insightful Player.com website features the inspirational stories of 32 current and former NFL players, each of whom overcame great obstacles and hardships to become not just fine athletes, but through their values and their life experiences, became extraordinary individuals that serve as an inspiration to us all.

The short-version of each Insightful Player story is available on InsightfulPlayer.com. The full-length version will appear in the Insightful Player book that will be published by Morgan-James Publishing this summer.

The Insightful Player™ is brought to you by Coach Chrissy Carew, Master Certified Personal and Business Coach.  Chrissy has been deeply inspired by her father, the late Coach Walter Carew, Sr.  Her beloved father is in several Halls of Fame as a high school football coach (as well as high school and college player). How a $4.99 App Gave Parents Hope After the 9.0 Earthquake in Japan on March 12th

As many of you know, I am a total geek when it comes to using technology to do more with less. As the owner of a marketing services company, I also work with tech clients as a consultant to help them  figure out their sales and marketing go-to-market strategy. One of my clients creates audio and GPS tour guide apps (GeoRoamer Yellowstone is the first of several new apps coming this spring) so when I heard about this story using similar technology, I had to share it with you, and after reading this, I know you will be sharing it with your friends too.

Let’s go back to the devastation of the 9.0 earthquake that hit Japan on March 12, 2011. We were all watching in shock as the news videos and reports were coming in. The toughest thing was for families and friends to try to reach their loved ones by phone, email, and any means to see if they were okay… and of course, hundreds and thousands of people could not be reached, phone lines that were working were over wrought and calls were not getting through – remember that awful busy sound you’d hear when trying to call someone 20+ years ago?

Well, one family had made a purchase of an app called TekTrak. (Okay, my son also has this app and was successful in getting his lost phone back by tracking it using this app so I know first hand it works and saved me from buying a new iPhone to replace it if he couldn’t have gotten it back…) But I digress.

This family in Japan, whose daughter was at school which was about an hour’s ride from home began to worry about how their daughter was doing after the earthquake – they remembered the app they put on her phone which had a GPS component to track the phones location… so they immediately began to track her movement, which was encouraging because she was moving.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I would be running out the door towards her school to get her to safety. But these parents had the presence of mind to check with the tracking system. They saw that she was not staying in the same place and through the GPS (which does not require cell service to use) they could see where she was going as they tracked her with TekTrak.

Oh – yeah, it took 7 hours for the daughter to get home… to her anxious parents. But they knew she was on her way as they tracked her with technology!!

location tracking with TekTrak

Location tracking after the earthquake with TekTrak

I can tell you that skipping a Starbucks or dessert and putting that $5 into an app that you may never need but could be a lifesaver is well worth it… Okay, I admit I won’t give up my Angry Birds app for it but there are plenty of other things you can do for yourself and your family… and one of them is getting an emergency preparedness kit together (here are several to check out www.quakekare.com, www.essentialpacks.com and a list from the Ready.gov site to put together yourself: www.ready.gov/america/getakit) - no matter where you live – you should have one… and if all possible, get this app from TekTrak, if cell service goes out… you can still track your loved ones via the TekTrak app!

Celebs Invited to Help Children Smile with Smile Portrait Project

There’s nothing more warming than a smile. It gives you confidence, helps those around you feel at ease and so much more. Here are a few quotes I found to help paint a picture about the importance of what a smile can do for a person and to help set the tone of how awesome this story is:

  • People seldom notice old clothes if you wear a big smile.  ~Lee Mildon
  • The world always looks brighter from behind a smile.  ~Author Unknown
  • Life is like a mirror, we get the best results when we smile at it.  ~Author Unknown

Mingle Media TV is excited to be reporting on an awesome program designed to give back to our kids… to give them the gift of a smile. We love to support our Los Angeles Area community and causes large and small > especially ones that we know you can come out and support as well. The program is called “The Smile Portrait Project” and is founded by photographer, Faleena Hopkins, who is offering free 30 minute portrait shoots where the participants can purchase the photos after the shoot (or not). Faleena will be donating a large portion of the proceeds  to the “Smile Train” organization that helps children with cleft-pallet smile again.

Project Smile

Now, you don’t have to be a celebrity to participate and we’d love to keep Faleena busy shooting every hour because the “cause” is definitely something we all know is important!

Here’s more info on the “Smile Train” Benefit: Cleft lips and palates are a significant problem in under-developed countries. Children do not have the money or opportunity for reparative surgery to help them live normal lives. The goal of “Smile Train” is to provide free cleft surgeries for millions of poor children in developing countries and to provide free cleft-related training to medical personnel.
